Brisbane Networking Event 2022

ACAN entities were joined by academics, police, unions and colleagues from the mining, energy, building, shipping and other sectors at a modern slavery networking event hosted by Mills Oakley (MO) Lawyers in Brisbane. MO Pro Bono Partner and Domus 8.7 Advisory Committee Member, Luke Geary, hosted the event and shared his direct experiences of working on slavery cases in Australia and the services offered via the Everyday Justice law firm owned by MO. The event also included remarks from:

  • Carsten Primdal, Business Engagement and Remediation Advisor, ACAN

  • Sharon Bailey, Deputy Director-General of Queensland Government Procurement

  • Dr James Cockayne, NSW Anti-slavery Commissioner

  • Dr Martijn Boersma, Associate Professor Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking - University of Notre Dame Australia

These networking events are useful for sharing information, building cross-sector relationships and communities of practice around modern slavery risk management and other responses.
