A Response to Modern Slavery from WA
ACAN congratulates The Most Rev Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB who was elected president of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference on the opening day of its plenary meeting. Archbishop Costelloe was appointed an Auxiliary Bishop of Melbourne in 2007 and Archbishop of Perth in 2012. He is the first president of the Bishops Conference from Western Australia and, as a priest of the Salesians of Don Bosco, the first member of a religious order to be elected president. Archbishop Costelloe will replace Archbishop Mark Coleridge, who served as president for four years. Archbishop Costelloe has shown great support to anti-slavery initiatives in his Archdiocese and will endorse the 2021 Catholic Compendium of Modern Slavery Statements as ACBC President. The Archdiocese of Perth video on modern slavery send a clear message about commitment, collaboration and action across the Catholic Church in WA to end modern slavery.
